Green is the new black!

So I gave you some great news the other day about Joana having a guest call which has been extended til May 8… I have even greater news! Joining mad creative forces, Joana and I have created something about a 'cause' so important we both passionately believe in -- reduce, reuse, recycle -- the three basic Rs in 'going green.' We all create pages after pages of layouts, some printed some not. So when you do print, take a little extra time and make sure what you want to print is your final version so you don't have to reprint. Just a few seconds or minutes can be your three Rs contribution. It's that simple. Make the three Rs a daily family habit. Teach and motivate your children. Show them how to recycle and let them keep the money collected from the recycle centers for their piggy banks. National Geographic has a wonderful 'green' site loaded with great information. Green is jam-packed with 18 unique individually-designed papers, over 50 one-of-a-kind elements (including hemp strings/stitches, pretty green clusters, unique paper and natural hearts/floral/tree/foliage pieces, hand-drawn journal mats, recycled cardboard frames, and much more), a lower-case alpha and numeral (with Scandinavian characters) set to complete the kit.

A few years ago when I started digi-scrapping, I stumbled upon designs by Joana Carvalho, and instantly I was in love with all her products. I bought everything in her store and scrapped quietly, not quite ballsy enough to post anything in any galleries. I admired her designs and wondered what kind of person she would be had I met her. I thought to myself, I bet she must be so great cause only someone so unique like that could create such beautiful work. And I also thought how cool I would feel if I could gather the courage to tell her and even show her what I created with her products. But I was a big chicken shit and never gathered the courage. So I created layouts and admired them quietly at home. Eventually I started posting in galleries, and then as you know now, I am a designer at CatScrap. I was equally excited about making CatScrap my home, as I was about meeting the other designers. And with Joana being part of that wonderful out-of-this-world talent mix, I was stoked beyond words. Anyway, that's my little story about my Joana infactuation. We have since become friends, and guess what? She lives just a few miles from me! Is that insane or what?!

Now the big news... And this does not come by often. Joana is looking for a few guest girls for her creative team, and you do not want to miss this wonderful opportunity. Detour

Stumbled upon a little life detour last week, so I wasn't around to post the winners of Santa Cruz. But I'll be back later tonight! Thanks for your patience.

In The Dark

We had a power outage for a 'scheduled' maintenance on the entire block last night. I was extremely annoyed cause I wanted to get the new kit into the shops and couldn't do a darn thing. I was even more annoyed when we called the electric company and got a recording that said the outage was 'scheduled' and wouldn't be back up til 6:50 am. "We apologize for the inconvenience... bla bla bla..." Are ya? Are ya really sorry? Are ya so sorry you couldn't send us some sorta notice in the mail about a 'scheduled' maintenance? Are ya sorry that Kalea and I had to finish our bath in the dark? Are ya sorry that ya burst my bubble about uploading a new kit? I DON'T THINK SO! Ok, ok... Done venting.

The moral of my little gripe is... Don't take things for granted, cause you'll be in the dark.

Thinking back about when I was a banana slug at the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC)... I really should've enjoyed it more. It was the most beautiful campus I had ever seen... Enormous redwood, lush hills and greenery, gorgeous overview of the Santa Cruz coast, the most friendliest people, beautiful nature everywhere. From my dormroom on top of a hill, I could hear seals barking at night, I could hear waves crashing, I could almost taste the salt in the air. But I took it all for granted. I only went to the beach a few times when I lived a block away in my senior year. I rushed to get to classes cause I was cramming the night before. I couldn't wait to get out of class so I could get home. I didn't live the moment like I should've of. I procrastinated. I procrastinated so much I needed two extra quarters to graduate. If I had to do it all over again, I'd do it with a camera in my hand instead of the loser boyfriend. 

If I could live anywhere in California, I'd live in Santa Cruz. And I know Kalea would love it because she loves being outdoors and in with nature. It's been 12 years since I graduated, and I've come a long way since then. I present to you something naturally carefree to enjoy your ride... Santa Cruz.

Rabbit Princess

Ok, so I really don't have much to blog about right now, but I just have to share these photos of Kalea on Easter. There are tons more, but I just want to quickly show you a few. First of all, she is in this total princess phase. Everything she wears has to resemble something a princess would wear, in her mind. Last week, she wore a fluffy Hello Kitty dress for four days. She would not take it off, so I couldn't wash or change her. I was so very close to putting her in the tub with that dress on. It's not even a dress I would normally put on her cause it's all foo-foo fluffy puffy, but the girl would not take off her "kitty princess" no matter how much I bribed her. So she still had it on Easter eve, and I had remembered a cute Peter Rabbit dress I had bought a year ago when we vacationed in Taiwan. I pulled it out hoping to entice her to put her PJs on. Her eyes bugged out when she saw it, and said "mama, my rabbit princess?" I said, "yes, but you have to put on your jammies and then you can wear it tomorrow so you don't wrinkle it." To my surprise, she happily said, "ok, mama!" So she woke me up bright and early Easter morning and put the dress on my face, and said, "rabbit princess now, mama!" (i forgot to mention, she now says "now" and demands now.) I dragged myself outta bed cause if I didn't, she'd eventually literally sit on my face to get me to wake up. So we got her in the dress, and I almost crapped in my pants cause she even let me put piggies in her hair! PIGGIES! She'd usually run away the instant she feels me doing something other than just plain brushing it or pinning back her bangs. She said, “mama, kia have princess hair?” So if she thinks piggies are princess hair, by all means, heck yeah! So I took about a bazillion photos cause this could be a one-time deal.

YOU & YOUS

It's Friday, and I'm in love... With my little girl. The feeling you get from the love of your own child is beyond compare, nothing I've ever felt before. And it's because of her I scrap. I just love her to pieces!
